Run the cold tap two minutes. If it clears and stays clear, the corrosion is in the pipe rather than the supply, and you have time to plan a repipe rather than react to one. If it never clears, check whether your utility has an open violation — 317 of Oklahoma’s 847 community water systems carry one.

This is most common in homes built before about 1940. Pre-war construction — galvanized supply, cast iron drains, cloth-wrapped wiring, ungrounded circuits.
