Screw-in fuse bases accept any size, so a 30 amp fuse frequently ends up on 15 amp wire. The wire will then heat past its rating without the fuse ever blowing. If you find this, replace it with the correct size fuse today – 15 amp for standard circuits – and have the panel assessed. Do not simply keep replacing a fuse that blows repeatedly.
This is most common in homes built before about 1940. Pre-war construction — galvanized supply, cast iron drains, cloth-wrapped wiring, ungrounded circuits.
